The hotel lobby is lovely. Loved: The breakfast. Have some fun making your own Belgian waffle.
The room was below average. My husband and I were taken aback by unpleasant details, huge stains in the carpet (room 13), missing cover on an arm chair. And we were rattled by a substantial change in price ($120 more), after having made our reservation months in advance and re-confirming the quote.
My main advice: Get the room rates for your stay in writing.
This is possibly simply our misfortune. A fluke. However, should anyone else encounter this same situation, you will have this guest's experience to help validate yours. Or, perhaps, someone at Villa Rosa will see this and make sure it doesn't happen again.
I think what made matters worse was the obviously unsympathetic attitude of the front desk attendant who said, "If we believed everyone who told us the rate was supposed to be different... well... not that I'm saying you ARE lying." Wow. I am still taken aback when I recall her response.
We asked to speak to the manager, who was reached by phone. She was of the same temperament. So, we had to let it go in the end. Although, we can afford to end the dispute this way. I would be very sad for others, less fortunate, being treated this way.
Also, I had asked if there was a room with a view of the ocean. Room 13 was the suggestion, but we could only glimpse what I consider bits of the ocean between the building next door, some trees and the pier. Overall, a very disappointing stay.
